One of the reasons that your projects, your life or your relationships are not progressing the way you hope is because you may be pushing against your season. If you keep finding yourself mumbling 'why can't i just be more like her', or 'do this better', 'not feel like that' - you might have forgotten about your seasons.
You are a thing of nature, not a machine you can program for a given performance at a given time. You are a thing of nature, and thus you follow the laws of nature. No matter how much you water the plant in winter, it will not bloom. You can tape the dying leafs to an autumn tree and fashionably call it a bio hack, the tree will shed regardless.
Many of us are wildly disconnected to what seasons mean, what adjustments they require. Understanding which season you are in has nothing to do with where you THINK you should be, where you expect yourself to be. Season is how you feel, season is in your energy levels, it’s in how social you feel, how connected to your power. It’s what you find yourself doing, rather than what have been planning to do or what you tell others you have been doing. Seasons is your longing, your inevitability. Seasons is your ultimate bio hack.
Below you will find a quick and dirty way to assess which season you are likely to be in and recommendations how you can streamline your reality to experience pleasurable easeful success and joyful living.
Instructions
To identify your current season, look through the 4 lists below describing the feelings and states typical to each season. Count how many states in every season apply to you, scored out 0 to 30 for each season.
Interpret the states relative to yourself, not relative to other people. For example, ‘timid’ means that lately you have been feeling more timid than your usual self, NOT whether you can be considered timid compared to others. Seasonal manifestations will vary depending on the personality and personal history, so don’t expect to tick off every listed state. Just identify a list that most closely corresponds to how you have been feeling recently.

SPRING
What to expect:
Spring is the most capricious season. It’s hopeful and fresh, it’s forward-looking. It’s also unstable, fragile and demanding. If you grew up in climate with well-defined 4 seasons, you will know that spring is not as romantic as it is sometimes portrayed. Revival is messy and unstable. Snow doesn’t melt gracefully and quickly, there is always a period where the fairy-tale whiteness is replaced with dirty slippery mush. Unexpected frosts will suddenly hit just when it seems that summer has finally arrived and is here to stay. During spring time the attacks of wild animals, ravenous from cold hungry winter, are most frequent. Birds and animals have to work extra hard to find a good place for nest and build.
Recommendations:
Spring is a time for choosing which seeds you want to plant, and once planted for nurturing and protecting their growth. Your key words is gentleness, patience and openness.
For yourself:
Your inner landscaping will be buzzing. Spring is selfish. A lot of things will be happening. Your attention is likely to be on yourself, and also scattered.
Play and Experiment.
If you embraced your autumn season in full, you have already cut off what is not right for you. Now is the time to discover what is. Spring can feel like re-entering your teenage years. During this period unresolved issues from your teenage and early 20s can return. Allow yourself to be awkward, to be insecure, to change your mind, allow yourself to fail. You already learned how to do certain things really well, being in spring means that now you have an opportunity to discover new things or new ways of doing old things in new ways. It’s incredibly brave to be willing to dismantle the old ways and vulnerably, honestly become a beginner again.
But don’t try to change everything at once. Remember, you are not uprooting, you are merely looking for new possibilities. Start small by trying out small changes to your routines. Do you always have the same thing for breakfast? Have you been doing the same exercise? Driving the same route home? Spending your evenings the same way? Do you approach new people with a same story? Would you like to try wearing new colours? Allow yourself to sample, discover, explore, all with a sense of curiosity. Forget about results, performance and appearances, concentrate on the process and what you experience.
Be gentle towards yourself.
Spring energy is intense, but inconsistent Especially if you are just coming out of a struggle with deep prolonged winter spent in apathy and inaction, you are likely to overexert yourself as soon as...

SUMMER
What to expect:
Summer is the brightest happiest season. Long warm days of frolicking in the sun. Summer bursts, effortlessly streams, grows, runs giggling ahead. And, seduced, we all happily run along. Summer is when nature has the most energy, most enthusiasm, most colour. Summer is peak.
Recommendations:
You have defined your expectations, your identity and goals. You know where you are heading. Eyes on the prize. This is the best time to build and develop your personal and professional life!
For yourself:
Unleash your power
This is the time to let your inner Warrior/Queen/King/Conqueror come out to play. Do not copy others expression of power. It’s time to be clear and confident about who you are. Who you are you at your strongest? What does your fiery side look like? What is your superhero/supervillain self look like? Let her take over and bring you where you always wanted to be. It’s time to make those dreams come true. Build on ideas, take opportunities, ride your confidence high all the way out of your comfort zones. Flirt with fire a little, take risks, say YES. See just how much you are capable of.
Flow, don't chase
On the flip side, it’s easy to get blinded by the light of your own success, over-invest, forget that all must end, and kid yourself forever almighty. The most difficult thing about summer is knowing when to end it. Summer feels f!cking great, but this too must end. Celebrate everyday, celebrate your small wins, bask in your peak energy, your beauty. Really learn how to enjoy being yourself. The more you celebrate the easier it will be for you to know when autumn is coming. You will not need to chase the high of winning and succeeding longer than you really need it if you are fully present for celebrations you will know when you are starting to get full.
Feeling rocky?
If you don’t have the foundation of certainty, you will be working hard for the wrong goal, You will be working hard to show off, to convince yourself and others the you are an achiever but still not quite feeling it. You will feel unstable, insecure no matter how much you are win, no matter how much praise the world is singing to you. Go back to your basics. Go back to the spring symptoms list, check if you are have chased spring away too soon. Be willing to take your foot of the gas, slow down, and maybe even turn back, if your ride is turning out too bumpy for you. Summer is supposed to be pleasurable even when you are working hard.
Your relationships:
In a long-term relationship it’s not a given that the summer season of one partner will coincide with summer of the other. We all have our own timing. If your partner is going through a cold inactive winter or a turbulent spring...

AUTUMN
What to expect:
Can you feel the temperatures cooling? Can you see the colours slowly starting to fade? Last of the harvest is collected. Nature is shedding. Preparing to rest. Winter is coming.
Autumn is the most contradictory stage. Just like menopause onset for women, autumn can be a total blessing for some and the most difficult and disruptive experience for others. Fall season is the ultimate reality check, the time to get honest with yourself.
Recommendations:
If you have been living in a way that is balanced, connected with your needs, you will feel like this is the time when everything is clicking. Everything is at its right place, everything makes sense. You will feel like you are floating on clouds, effortlessly moving from pleasure to pleasure. Basking in gratitude and abundance. You are in love, you’ve arrived. Enjoy the flow.
If, however, you have not been living in alignment with yourself in previous seasons, fall is where it will all show up. If you have been addicted to achievements and work and have not been resting adequately; if you have been going in the wrong direction, if you don’t even know which direction is right for you, if you have been spending time with the wrong people, thinking one thing and saying another - this will be a difficult time for you. It will feel like constant swimming against quite a bitch of a current.
For yourself
Before humans learned how to outsmart nature, we would follow the natural order of things. In Autumn we would finish collecting the harvest, breath out, rest a little and switch our attention to processing, stocking and storing what we harvested for the approaching winter.
Return to basics
Take stock. Count your blessings. What have you achieved? Which rewards have you received? Can you enjoy them? Do you know how to enjoy? Do you know how to celebrate yourself, your team, your achievements, and even your failures? If all that you feel is disappointment; if you always want more; if your wins are tasting sour and your achievements look better than they feel - it’s a sign something is not aligned. It’s a sign that you need to change something. Instead of doubling down and ramming yourself against the same walls, brace yourself for a change.
In Chinese culture autumn associated with courage and sadness. Courage to say no to what doesn’t excite you, even though rationally it may seem the right thing to do. So what that you have just announced that you will launch a cool new project? So what if you just signed a contract for a job? If it’s not right, it’s not right. Persist - and it will break you. Have courage to do what you know deep in your soul is good for you. It takes courage to find time and pause. To answer uncomfortable questions honestly instead of using the same lame excuses like ‘I’m busy’ or ‘It is what it is’. Look at your patterns...

WINTER
What to expect:
Winter is stillness. Winter is sleep. Regeneration. Long nights. Inaction. Silence. Less is more.
Recommendations:
For yourself
Humble down
Humbled is another social media overused and over-abused words I quietly hate (along with ‘blessed’ and ‘so grateful’ and, yes, ‘hustle’). But humbling is what winter really is. Winter reveals that we are not untiring metal machines programmed for a perpetual action and successes. It reminds us that we are a thing of nature - delicate, human. That we need rest, support, love. It can be pretty scary. You used to be able to do much more. You used to be more excited about things, more optimistic. Suddenly you are what may feel like a washed out version of yourself. Let winter happen. Let death happen, for winter is a little death. And when you master the art of doing the little deaths throughout your life, when the big, the ultimate death comes, you will be ready. Let yourself experience deadness after in autumn you burried the old you. You will be You again, a brighter you, a new you, but only if you let the seasons do their magic. Right now. Shut off your computer. Cancel the meetings. Be still.
Winter is when you need to throw out your schedule. This is not the time for planning, scheming, rational mapping. Whatever your mind produces, cuddle it, say thank you for being awesome at shooting firework ideas, and then do what the body wants. This is the recovery time. Introspection. If you have been wounded, this is when you lick your wounds (or get them licked if you are lucky). Rest. Rest until you can’t help yourself but move. Until you are moved from within. Not when you force yourself, push yourself. It’s time to discover the difference between push and pull.
If you hear an inner rumble ‘but I must, but I promised, but I was supposed’ - this is most likely your anxieties talking. And also a sign that you didn’t do autumn fully or at all. Revisit your autumn. Revisit the shedding. Beware of riding a constant summer high. When you insist on making your summer endless, winter comes abruptly. It will come in a form of an accident, an injury. You get fired. Dumped. The rug will be pulled out from under you. The worst that could have happen will happen. Or you will make it happen to yourself by outrageous acts of self-sabotage and the most exquisite self-. You don’t need to destroy yourself (and by association everything and everyone around you), you can gently dismantle.
Rest may be hard to do if you are the doer, the achiever. Know that rest doesn’t have to look like complete stillness. It’s all relative. You don’t have to force yourself to fall in love with scented candles, baths and Dido if this is not your thing. Just make sure you know what is. What is Your version of nourishment? What...
